The Three Sisters
Bidean nam Bian, the Scottish name for the Three Sisters. Named one of the best views in the United Kingdom, this area also has a lot of history. The Three Sisters are located in an area once owned by Clan Macdonald. Coire Gabhail was used as an area to hide their livestock they owned, or stole. Clan Campbell commonly had feuds with Clan Macdonald and in 1692 the Massacre of Glencoe occurred.
We hiked up a trail called the Coire Gabhail, The Lost Valley. Walking Highlands has a well laid out description and details of the hike. Once we arrived at the stream we decided not to cross, as we couldn’t afford to have our clothing get wet in the cold. We still made it up high enough to encounter the boulder field which we walked around and ate lunch by the stream. Some sections of the hike can get difficult and slippery. It’s not an over long hike, but we did take longer than the 2-3 hours listed to take in the view and to eat lunch. If you are in the area and don’t stop here, even if you don’t do the hike, to take in the view, you are doing yourself a disservice.
